Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg’s Cycle of Hope is a 15 day cycling tour of the Great Lakes area and will begin a 1600 kilometre journey starting in St. Croix, Wisconsin. Click here to view the 2008 Cycle of Hope route.

Each cyclist (that's me!) has made a commitment to raise a minimum of $2,500 for Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg as well as paying a registration fee. As collective group the cyclists hope to raise enough money to construct a new home for a low-income working family: the 2007 Cycle of Hope team raised over $150,000! The 2008 Cycle of Hope’s Habitat Home will be located on Minto Street and will begin construction on July 12, 2008.

What I need is your support! All monies fundraised in this effort will go directly toward building the 2008 Cycle of Hope's Habitat Home. I have personnaly paid a registration fee that will cover any extra logistical costs associated with the cycle (gas, food, etc.) (but a huge thank-you needs to go to all the great communities out there along our cycle route who will volunteering food & shelter to us!). So that means you and I can give generously to this effort and know that every dollar is making a difference!

My husband and I purchased our first home last year. The joy and pride in owning our own home has been wonderful. But its also been challenging financally. It is a growing challenge to find safe, decent, affordable housing in Winnipeg, and many working families aren't as forunate as us to be in a position to make that first finanical step toward owning their own home. Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg, a not-for-profit, registered charity organization, that gives a hand-up not a hand-out to those low-income working families.

Habitat Homeowners purchase a no-profit home from Habitat, with a 0% interest mortgage and no down payment. Mortgages are amortized over a 20 to 30 year term. Habitat Homeowners are selected through a detailed process and must be considered low-income as set out by Statistics Canada. Once selected, each family must complete a total of 350 to 500 hours of sweat equity before taking possession of their Habitat Home. One hundred hours of this sweat equity will be done by working alongside volunteers to help build their own home.

I hope you'll be part of building this house with us,
and follow myself and the 2008 Cycle of Hope team as we:
build-up to the cycle tour and build-up to building on Minto Street!
